Autumn is one of my favorite seasons of the year here in the heartland. The temperatures are starting to cool down, and the colors are changing all around.
The fallen leaves remind me of being a kid again, raking them up and jumping into the pile.
Experiencing autumn with my daughters has been such an enjoyable time doing the same things I did when I was young. It helps me to slow down and really value the time I have with them as a father.
I grew up watching scary movies, staying up late with my mom, especially during Halloween. If there wasn't already some horror marathon going on T.V., we'd watch the latest movie my aunt got on VHS. That would probably explain the majority of my weirdness growing up. Now, as a dad, I have chosen not to show those kinds of things to my girls, nor do I watch them much anymore, but I know my aunt will still stop by my parents house, help pass out Halloween candy, and bring over some scary movies.
Mom, I always knew you were weird, but at least you get one day a year to be yourself. :)
